Tucson has its moments where it lives up to its stereotype of being incredibly weird. That’s what makes it fun to be here or else we would be bored and suffering in 100 heat.
Indie, a bit of screamo, and a dash of industrial music is what we have for this weekend. You can either stay with some obvious staples of the scene, or venture off into some great avenues of subgenres.
- If you’re looking for all shows that are this weekend, check out this calendar I made. I looked at all venues as well as shows that I knew had Tucson locals, but if you don’t see yours here, reach out to me by filling out this form.
- Also, for next week, sign up for this newsletter here. You’ll get the a list of shows at the beginning of the week with some other fun oogles to look at.
Okay slay.
Dancing Garunteed:

New Misphoria Birthday with Pet Mammoth and Upnow!
- When: Saturday, May 31st, 7:00 Pm
- Where: Hotel Congress Plaza
- Genre: Indie
- Price: $15 Adv | $20 Day of show ( Link)
- Why go? New Misphoria is a pillar of indie here in Tucson. They’re range and performance are textbook, but the best thing about these shows is the crowd. The crowd is not afraid to dance, to crowdsurf, to just be themselves. This was a no brainer to put on here.
- Dont believe me? Pictures

“You would sound cool if you go to this” Show:
Rat Tzar, The Bat Bridge,mess.a.lina
- When: Friday, May 30th 7:00 Pm
- Where: Groundworks
- Genre: Electronic, Rock, Folk
- Price: $10 ( Link)
- Why go? You probably noticed I mentioned Mess.A.Lina back in one of my last posts. This hopefully gives you a little anchor as to what to expect! A little instruction manual on how goth can be translated across different genres.
Elephant in the Venue

Daytrails with All Yours and Desert Child
- When: Wednesday, May 28th, 7:00 PM
- Where: Club Congress
- Genre: Indie
- Price: $10 adv | $12 Doors ( Ticket Link)
- Why Go? This is an obvious one. All Tucson locals, all indie, all music that is danceable. All yours and Desert Child have been doing the fastest speedrun of how many times they can book Club Congress, but I love to see that Daytrails is getting a bit of the hype! This is one of the first band I took photos for back in the day, and from then to know their sound has only gotten more refined and catchy. I’ve been saying book these guys to every band I met since day one so yes having a headline show at Club Congress is a massive win.
Breakout Show
After Tomorrow, Skin Theory, Forget Machine, and Sunchower
- When: Thursday, May 29th, 6:30 pm
- Where: Club Congress
- Genre: Screamo, indie, jazz, pop, ???
- Price: $10 adv | $15 Doors (Link)
- Why go? When hearing After tomorrow, I thought “yeah, maybe a mouthguard show”. Then, after hearing Skin Theory, I thought ” dance guaranteed maybe”, then I heard forget machine and was like ” oh, grunge?”. Then Sunchower hit me with Gorillaz style vocals and jazz rhythms. With bands I usually never hear in the Club Congress or Rialto circuits, I’d say these are good contenders to be Tucson favorites.
Chill Show
Barefoot on Bumblebees Album Release with Lolly Bombd, Ditriam, and the Bug Club
- When: Saturday, May 31st, 7 PM
- Where: Black Iris Lounge
- Genre: Indie
- Price: Free!
- Why Go? With a unique, bluegrass indie sound, Barefoot on Bumblebees has put together a show that emphasizes the coolness and beauty of being just a bit quirky. Alongside the edgyish pop punk group The Lolly Bombs ( Bandcamp here) and experimental sounds from Dimitiriam and the bug club, you get to see a version of indie that’s even indie-er.
This was a hard week -> These shows missed the cut due to the emphasis being on touring bands, but GOD these sound good
Stalemate with Nervous Kids, Next to noth9ing, portrait in grey
2 Pigeon John, Awol One, Jivin Scientists, AZ-IL
You also have 7 other shows you can go to this weekend. All shows are listed here.
Next week will be a different list, but you can actually sign up for this newsletter to get it
Where’s Kat going: To try not to take it personally when a bunch of high school theater kids say I’m not cool.
